Fish fry recipe | Chepala vepudu recipe | bachelors recipe | Village style fish fry recipe

Crispy, delicious and flavor full south Indian dish, fish fry which will be Simple and easy dish that can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish with hot steamed white or brown rice or jeera rice or coconut rice of your choice.

To make this simple and easy fish fry, firstly we need to marinate fish pieces for half an hour and just shallow fry in a pan. After marinating, cooking process will be done just under 10 mins, fish fry will be ready and can have it as an appetizer or with any variety of hot steamed rice.

Basically first cooking guru is my mom and my sister. Once i am expert in any recipe only then i will post the video. This recipe i have learned from my mom and she is very much expert in this dish.

Ingredients for fish fry:
  • Fish pieces – 6
  • Salt – ½ tsp or required amount
  • Red chili powder – ½ tsp or required amount
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Corn flour – ½ tsp
  • Ginger & Garlic paste – ½ tsp
  • Water – required amount
  • Oil – ladle full
  • Curry leaves – sprig
  • Coriander leaves – fist full

Ingredients and Procedure for wash/clean fish pieces before cooking to get rid of fishy odor (after removing scales and chopping):
  • Fish pieces – 6
  • Salt or Rock salt – ½ tbsp.
  • Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Curd – 1 ½ tbsps.

Mix all the above ingredients and rinse under running cold water for 2 to 3 times. Drain out all the water, so that fishy odor will be removed.

Procedure for marinating fish fry:

  • Into a small mixing bowl, add Salt, Red chili powder, Turmeric powder , Cumin seeds powder, Coriander powder, Pepper powder, Corn flour, Ginger & Garlic paste, Water.
  • Mix it well and make into fine paste as shown in the video.
  • Now nicely coat this mixed paste to washed and cleaned fish pieces. Allow it to marinate for half an hour.

Procedure for fish fry:

  • Heat a ladle full of oil in a wide open heavy bottom non stick pan or kadai on a medium flame, add these marinated fish pieces.
  • Cover these fish pieces and cook for 5 mins on a very low flame.
  • Now flip to other side and cook for 5 more mins on a very low flame without placing lid.
  • Here as shown in the video, you can see these fish pieces are well cooked and this is nice and done.
  • Finally garnish with some finely chopped coriander leaves and a sprig of curry leaves.
  • Serve this dish as an appetizer or as a side dish with any variety of hot steamed rice of your choice.
