Popcorn chicken Recipe / How to make easy and tasty popcorn chicken at home


Today I am going to share you a easy and tasty popcorn chicken which can be easily made at home. This version of popcorn chicken will be soft from inside and crusty outside. Even beginners and bachelors can make it without any expertise. This version of popcorn chicken which i generally make at home and my family members love this recipe a lot especially my daughter. Obviously kids will definitely love this recipe. :)

Main important component for popcorn chicken is to use tender boneless chicken, if your chicken is not tender don't worry rest the chicken by adding below ingredients list for 3 to 4 hours in refrigerator or for best result, rest it in refrigerator for overnight. 

To make this popcorn chicken little indian version, add little amount of ginger & garlic paste or garlic powder and some spice powders of your choice. For coating, including the below list you can even add bread crumbs, corn flakes crumbs, oats of your choice.

Ingredients:
  • Corn flour – 2 tsps
  • Pepper powder – 3/4 tsp or Adjust according to your taste
  • Soya sauce – 1 tsp or Adjust according to your taste (this is complete optional)
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp or Adjust according to your taste
  • Egg – 1
  • Boneless Chicken – 250 grams 
  • Oil – To deep fry. 
For coating:
  • All-purpose flour - 3/4 cup
  • Red chili powder or paprika - 1 tsp or Adjust according to your taste
  • Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp or Adjust according to your taste
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp or Adjust according to your taste
  • Orange food colour - Tiny pinch (optional)
Procedure to make popcorn chicken:
  • Cut the chicken into 1 inch size, wash it well in water and drained out all the water. 
  • Take these chicken pieces into a wide open deep bowl, add ½ tsp of salt or enough amount, ¾ tsp of pepper powder or enough amount, soya sauce, cornflour and mix it well completely. Here you can even add red chili powder or paprika, ginger & garlic paste or ginger powder of your choice.
  • Now break the egg in a separate bowl and beat it well for a minute or so, add half the quantity of beaten egg mixture into chicken pieces. Mix it well completely, If required you can add up to full quantity of egg mixture. But here we have to use this egg mixture just for coating these chicken pieces, it should not be too liquid consistency. As shown in the video, half of the egg mixture quantity is sufficient for me. 
  • If the chicken is tender you can proceed to next step or else cover this and refrigerate for 4 to 5 hours or for overnight to get even more tastier. 
  • Now before going to deep fry, let's prepare dry ingredients mixture. Into all-purpose flour add tiny pinch of orange food colour, ½ tsp salt or enough amount of salt, red chili powder or even you can use paprika of your choice, ¼ tsp of pepper powder or adjust according to your taste. Mix it well completely until all the ingredients are well combined and set this aside. Into this mixture you can even use bread crumbs or oats or corn flakes crumbs of your choice.
  • On the other side, heat some oil to deep fry in a heavy bottom pan on medium flame (here I am using canola oil to deep fry).
  • Now take these rested chicken pieces and add into the all-purpose flour mixture in small quantity as shown in the video. Coat these chicken pieces until they are well coated. Dust off the excess flour by using fork or hand and transfer the coated chicken pieces to other plate.
  • Here there is another method to coat these chicken pieces, you have to take all-purpose flour mixture into large size ziplock bag and then add chicken pieces. close the ziplock bag and shake it well nicely until they are well coated. Dust off the excess flour by using hands and transfer to other plate.
  • Here do this coating in small batches just before going to deep fry.
  • On the other side oil is enough hot to deep fry.  Now gently drop these coated chicken pieces into hot oil and fry until golden colour from all the sides. While frying do not crowd the pan, fry them in small batches until they are done and stir in between for even frying.
  • Now transfer to other paper napkin plate by using slotted ladle and repeat the same procedure for the remaining.
  • Here our crispy and tasty popcorn chicken is ready now. serve it warm along with tomato ketchup or tomato chili sauce of your choice.
