Ugadi Pachadi Recipe / Learn how to make Ugadi Pachadi or Chutney Recipe | షడ్రుచుల సమ్మేళనం ఉగాది పచ్చడి | ఉగాది పచ్చడి


Sri Durmukhi Nama Samvatsara Ugadi Subhakankshalu (2016) to all the viewers. [Wishing you all a Happy New Year]. Ugadi means the beginning of New year and is celebrated on the first day of chaitra masam which is considered as first season of the year as per the Indian calendar. The name Yugadi or Ugadi is desired from sanskrit. Yuga means Era and Adi means Beginning: "The Beginning of a New Era". The people of Andhra, Telangana, karnataka celebrate ugadi festival with great devotion. 

This same festival is celebrated in maharashtra as gudi padwa. In different regions have different names but on the day, everyone celebrates this festival by cleaning their house and the doorways of every house are adorned with fresh mango leaves, garlands of marigold which signifies the prosperity in the new year, wearing clothes, preparing different kind of dishes like ugadi pachadi, pulihora, pala munjaluBobbatlu(puran poli), (Chalimidi, vadapappu, panakam), Boorelu, Garelu, Rava ladduPayasam and so on...:) and by doing pujas, chanting of mantras, listening to the "panchanga sravanam" future predictions and classical music are the part of ugadi celebrations.

Ugadi Pachadi is the main dish on ugadi festival and is a mixture of 6 different tastes (Shadruchulu sammelanam in telugu). [Sweet(Teepi), Vagaru(Tangy), Sour(Pulupu), Bitter(Chedu), Spicy(karam), Salt(uppu)]. This healthy and Tasty ugadi pachadi signifies the life is mixture of happiness, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Fear and Surprise.


Ugadi pachadi is made with a combination of fresh neem flowers, jaggery, raw mango, salt, red chili powder, tamarind and these are the main ingredients and also we can add split chana dal, honey, coconut, ripen banana, cashews, raisins and these are the optional ingredients.


Everyone has their own version of making ugadi pachadi. Generally we make this pachadi in two versions.

One is thick version by mixing all the main ingredients.
Other one is thin version by adding a cup of water in the listed main ingredients.

Main Ingredients:


Raw Mango - 3 Tbsp (peeled and finely chopped)

Neem Flowers - 1 Tbsp
Tamarind - 1 large lemon size
shredded Jaggery - 2 Tbsp
Salt - 1/2 Tsp or adjust to your taste
Red Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp or adjust to your taste

Optional Ingredients:


Raisins - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)

Cashews - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Roasted Chana Dal - 1 tbsp
Honey - 1 Tbsp
Coconut - 1 or 2 Tbsps finely chopped
Ripen Banana - 1 Tbsp finely chopped

Procedure to make Ugadi Pachadi:

  • Soak the tamarind in half cup of warm water until it becomes nice and soft. Squeeze out all the pulp or even grind it into fine paste. Transfer the smooth pulp into another bowl and discard the residue. set aside.
  • Take the neem flowers into both palms and rub it gently, so that the petals of the flower will be separated. In this recipe i am using only the petals of neem flowers and discard the remaining. As shown in the video. Set aside.
  • Peel  the skin of raw mango and remove jeedi(inner portion of mango), cut the mango into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Into a mixing bowl, add shredded jaggery, mango pieces, salt, red chili powder, split roasted chana dal, coconut pieces, raisins, tamarind juice, honey, Neem flowers. Mix all the ingredients completely or until the jaggery melts, by adding 1 cup of water (if you like thick pachadi skip by adding water).
  • Here our Healthy and Tasty Ugadi Pachadi is ready now. Offer this pachadi as a naivedyam or prasadam to god and share it with your family members.
