Cabbage Chutney Recipe | క్యాబేజీ టమోటా చట్నీ | Cabbage Tomato Chutney Recipe

Cabbage Tomato Chutney is a Healthy and Tasty Chutney. Simple and easy to prepare with in less time. This chutney tastes best when served with dosa, idli, upma or rice of your choice.

  • Cabbage - 2 Cups (Finely Chopped)
  • Tomatoes - 1 Large Size
  • Ginger - 1 Inch (Finely Chopped)
  • Green chilies - 2 (Adjust to your taste, according to the spiciness)
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
  • Fenugreek Seeds - 4 to 5
  • Garlic cloves - 2 (Finely chopped)
  • Salt - To Taste
  • Dry mango powder - 1/2 Tsp or Tamarind - Small piece
  • Sesame Seeds powder - 1 Tbsp (Dry Roasted)
  • Oil - 1 Tbsp
  • Hing - pinch
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/8 Tsp
  • Coriander leaves - Chopped (Fistful)

Ingredients for Seasoning:

  • Mustard Seeds - 1/8 Tsp
  • Urad Dal - 2 Tsps
  • Red chili - 2
  • Curry Leaves - Few
  • Oil - 2 Tsps

Procedure for Cabbage tomato chutney:

  • Wash finely chopped cabbage and drain out all the water. set aside.
  • Turn on the stove and take a heavy bottom pan. Add oil into the pan.
  • Once the oil is nice and hot, add Fenugreek Seeds, Cumin seeds, Chopped Garlic, Green chilies, Chopped Ginger and saute it well for few seconds on a medium flame.
  • Now add Chopped Tomatoes and saute it well for a minute on a medium flame.
  • Add Chopped Cabbage, Coriander Leaves and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on a medium flame or until the raw smell goes out.
  • Turn off the flame and allow the mixture to cool down completely.
  • Grind the mixture into fine and coarse paste by adding enough amount of salt, dry mango powder, dry roasted Sesame seeds powder. Do not add any water while grinding.
  • Transfer the grinded chutney into a bowl.

Seasoning for chutney:

  • Turn on the stove on a medium heat and add oil in a heavy bottom pan.
  • Once the oil is nice and hot, add Mustard seeds allow it splutter.
  • Now add urad dal, curry leaves, broken red chili and saute until golden colour.
  • Turn off the flame and transfer into the chutney. mix it well.
  • Here Chutney is ready now. Serve this delicious chutney with Dosa, Idli, Upma or Rice of your choice.


  • Here instead of dry mango powder you can even use small piece of tamarind of your choice. But do remember when compare with tamarind, dry mango powder is good for health.
