Sweet and Sour Tofu Recipe




Sweet and Sour Tofu Loaded with veggies and delicious sauce. This Healthy dish is so flavourful and those who doesn't have it before will definitely love this dish. Serve Sweet and Sour Tofu for Lunch or Dinner over hot Rice.Tofu is rich in Calcium and Iron.

Ingredients:
  •  ½ of 14 oz package of Firm Tofu
  •  ½ Medium Size Bell Pepper (Capsicum) thinly Sliced
  •  ½ Medium Size Carrot thinly sliced
  •  1/4  Medium Size Cabbage thinly Sliced
  •  Few Curry leaves
  •  2 to 3 Tsp Coriander Leaves
  •  1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  •  1 Tsp Coriander powder
  •  3 Tsp Brown Sugar
  •  3 Garlic cloves finely chopped 
  •  3 Tsp Sesame Seeds (Dry roasted until light golden brown)
  •  1/2 Tsp Red chili Powder
  •  1/4 Tsp Black Pepper Powder
  •  1/2 Lemon Size tamarind
  •  1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
  •  Salt to taste
  •  1 Tsp Soya Sauce
  •  2 Tsps Tomato Ketchup
  •  1 Tsp vinegar (Distilled white Vinegar)
  •  5 to 6 Tsps of Oil
Procedure:

  • Open 14 oz package of Firm Tofu.
  • Squeeze the Tofu gently keeping between your both palm (1/2 of 14 oz package of Firm Tofu).
  • Cut tofu into ¾ inch thick slices and pat dry between paper towels or fold in paper towel for 1 or 2 minutes, so that it absorbs all the water. Then cut slices into 1 inch cubes.
  • Soak tamarind in 1/4 cup of warm water for 15 minutes. Squeeze the tamarind mixture well, then discard tamarind pieces leaving a nice thick pulp.
  • Add the remaining sauce ingredients (Brown Sugar, Garlic, Sesame Seeds, Coriander Powder, Red Chili Powder, Black Pepper Powder, Salt, Turmeric Powder, Sliced Tofu) to the tamarind pulp, mix well and set aside for 5 to 10 mins. By marinating tofu, absorbs all the sauce ingredients.
  • Heat oil in a wide pan or wok over medium heat, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, bell pepper, Carrot stir-fry for a minute.
  • Add cabbage continue to stir fry for approx. 2 more minutes over medium heat or cook for about 70 to 80 % but Vegetables should still be crunchy.
  • Make the flame to low to medium and transfer cooked vegetables from pan to other plate.
  • To the same pan, add 2 tsps oil and add marinated tofu, cook tofu 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  • Add Soya sauce, Vinegar, Tomato Ketchup saute it and allow it to cook for 1 more minutes.
  • Add Cooked Vegetables, Coriander leaves. mix it well and turn of the flame.
  • Serve Flavourful Sweet and Sour Tofu for Lunch or Dinner over hot Rice.
Note:

  • You can also use any kind of vegetables of your choice.
